Administrative Court

Administrative court is designed to handle minor traffic offenses without requiring individuals charged with those traffic offenses to sit through a regular session of criminal district court. There are no officers present and trials are not conducted in administrative court. An assistant district attorney is present to negotiate pleas with the individuals who are charged. PLEASE SEE NOTES BELOW. A judge is also present to hear pleas and set any fines. Cases are called on a "first come - first served" basis. Individuals check in with a bailiff and are called up in that order by the assistant district attorney. Once their case is finished, individuals are given a cost sheet and must to to the clerk's office to pay their costs and fines. Individuals may request continuances to either criminal district court, if they wish to plead not guilty and have a trial. or to another session of administrative court. An individual may choose to hire a private attorney to represent them in administrative court. Unless the individual pays off the ticket beforehand, they, or their private attorney must appear in Traffic Administrative Court on the date given to the individual.

Anson County, Administrative Court operates between the hours of 9:30-12:00 and 2:00-4:00.

Richmond County, Administrative Court operates between the hours of 9:00-12:00 and 2:00-4:00 every other Tuesday.

Stanly County, Administrative Court operates form 9:00-1:00 every Friday unless otherwise noted on the court schedule.

NOTES:
1. The District Attorney's Office CANNOT give you legal advice, such as how a speed reduction will affect your license or insurance.

2. You may appear alone, with an attorney or an attorney may appear for you.

3. The Clerk's Office only accepts CASH or CERTIFIED CHECK. No Personal checks.

4. If you or your attorney does not show up on your court date, YOUR LICENSE MAY BE REVOKED.
