Todd Williams, DATodd M. Williams, 45, is proud of his native Tar Heel roots. Todd was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. and was educated in N.C public schools. He graduated high school in Alamance County and went on to enroll at UNC-Chapel Hill. Todd is currently licensed to practice law in the States of New York and North Carolina. Since becoming licensed to practice law, Todd has held employment as an Assistant Capital Defender with the state-wide Office of the North Carolina Capital Defender, served as an Assistant Public Defender in Buncombe County and has also served as Senior Assistant Public Defender in District 29B. In his years as a public defender, Todd represented thousands of defendants in all matters ranging from misdemeanors to murder in many courts and counties throughout Western North Carolina. Todd also has broad experience in the specialized courts of N.C. including juvenile court and drug treatment court.

In November 2014, Todd was designated a Board Certified Specialist in State Criminal Law by the N.C. State Bar. Among the more than 700 attorneys in Buncombe County, only a handful have attained NC State Bar certification in criminal law through the State Bar’s rigorous certification process.

Todd moved to Western North Carolina in 2000, and presently resides in Asheville.

On November 4, 2014 Todd won election to the Office of District Attorney with over 62% of the popular vote. Todd was sworn into office on January 1, 2015 by the Honorable Alan Z. Thornburg, and is Buncombe County's first new District Attorney in 24 years.
