This position is responsible for creating policies and procedures in relation to the administrative function of the Conference of District Attorneys to include office, budget, and training administration. Karen is responsible for grant procurement, budget and project management, and identification.  Furthermore, she assists the Director of the Conference of District Attorneys by providing requested research regarding fiscal information related to proposed legislation and media inquires..

The director of the Conference is directly responsible to the 42 elected District Attorneys for the development of programs, materials and consensus building. Other responsibilities include oversight of all Conference activities, projects and programs and monitoring legislation.
The Conference of District Attorneys was established as a state agency in 1983 under General Statute 7A-411.

"There is created the Conference of District Attorneys of North Carolina, of which every district attorney in North Carolina is a member. The purpose of the Conference is to assist in improving the administration of justice in North Carolina by coordinating the prosecution efforts of the various district attorneys, by assisting them in the administration of their offices, and by exercising the powers and performing the duties provided for in this article."

The Conference is governed by the elected district attorneys and assisted by a staff located in Raleigh. Primary responsibilities of the staff include, but are not limited to the following:

Training: The Conference develops trial advocacy programs and short courses for prosecutors on a variety of legal issues as well as computer training and case management. In addition the Conference develops and implements training for the support staff of District Attorneys.

Research: The Conference conducts research projects on needs and trends affecting prosecution and the Office of District Attorney.

Victims' Rights: The Conference develops materials, training and suggested protocols for the implementation of victims' rights services provided by the District Attorneys' offices.

Publications: The Conference publishes a number of newsletters directed to prosecutors and support staff. In addition, it publishes training manuals, brochures, videos and a number of other materials to assist District Attorney personnel and / or the public who is served by the District Attorneys.

The Traffic Safety Legal Assistant provides assistance to the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor by preparing for training's, providing technical assistance, legal research and more. The legal assistant is also available to assist you with any questions you may have regarding upcoming training's and serves as an avenue to provide information to the TSRP for you.

The Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor was created to address traffic safety problems both in and out of the courtroom. Dale will serve as a resource for all prosecutors throughout the state regarding Traffic Safety issues. In addition, he will identify traffic safety training opportunities and assist the Deputy Director in implementing that training.

The Child Abuse Resource Prosecutor was created to address child abuse and neglect. Laura will serve in a resource capacity to assist prosecutors across the state in evaluation, charging, prosecution, and appeal of cases involving child abuse and neglect. In addition, she will serve as a resource to law enforcement, social services workers, guardian ad litem, school systems and other child advocacy organizations. Laura will identify areas where training is needed in child abuse and neglect and assist the Deputy Director of Training in implementing that training.

The Violence Against Women Resource Prosecutor is responsible for developing training curricula for prosecutors in the areas of domestic violence and sexual assault and assisting the Deputy Director of Training in deploying this training to prosecutors. In addition, Amber will be available to provide technical assistance to prosecutors facing the difficult issues surrounding domestic violence and sexual assault cases.

The Operations Manager is responsible for procurement, data management, and fiscal oversight. Chad also coordinates, develops, and edits all informational materials and publications, along with managing and updating the Conference website. Other duties include assisting in the management of grant funded projects, and providing general office administration.

This position provides administrative and meeting planning support for the Conference of District Attorneys.  Administrative activities and responsibilities may include:  greeting guests, answering the phone, maintaining mail lists, and tracking travel reimbursement requests. This person will plan meetings and make arrangements for training conferences which may include:   hotel contracts, audio visual arrangements, travel arrangements, food and beverage, registration, preparing handouts, etc. and other administrative/secretarial duties as needed.

Kimberly Overton- Kimberly.N.Overton@nccourts.org
This position is responsible for addressing the training needs of prosecutors,support staff and law enforcement. Kimberly's responsibilities include identification of training topics, curriculum development and implementation. She provides technical assistance to prosecutors and law enforcement and assists the Resource Prosecutors in program development. Additionally, she assists the Director of the Conference of District Attorney's with Conference activities, projects and programs and at her requests researches legislation.
