District Attorney Frank Parrish received an A. B. in Journalism from UNC Chapel Hill in 1971 and a Juris Doctorate degree from Campbell University in 1979. His career began in 1979 as an Assistant District Attorney for the First Judicial District of North Carolina (Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans counties). In 1994 he became the District Attorney for the First District and ran unopposed in 1998 and 2002.

His professional activities include being admitted to the North Carolina State Bar in 1979. He is a member of the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys and the North Carolina District Attorneys Association. In addition, he is a member of the National District Attorneys Association. He was a Faculty Advisor for the Career Prosecutor Course, sponsored by the National College of District Attorneys in 1992. He was awarded the “Outstanding Trial Lawyer” award for Region IV, an 11-state region. The award was presented by the Association of Government Attorneys in Capital Litigation for the year 1993 -1994. Furthermore, he was a lecturer on “Sentencing Arguments in Capital Cases” in 1994 presented to Maryland State’s Attorneys Association and he was a lecturer for the annual North Carolina Criminal Evidence Seminar in 1995.

He is married to Kimberly Austin and has two children, Jason and Erin.
