“District Attorney” commonly refers to an attorney for the community elected by the people in his/her district to represent the interests of the general public, including crime victims in court proceedings against people accused of committing crimes. Other jurisdictions use various terms: Prosecutor, U.S. Attorney (a federal prosecutor), Solicitor, or State’s Attorney.

The primary duty of the District Attorney is to prosecute all criminal cases filed in the district. The District Attorney represents the state in all criminal and some juvenile matters. In addition, the District Attorney is responsible for preparing the criminal trial docket and advising law enforcement officers in the district.

District Attorney Sean Boone was born and raised in Alamance County. He graduated from Western Alamance High School in 1986 and continued his education at N.C. State University, earning a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in English. In 1997 Sean received his Juris Doctorate from the UNC School of Law. While working towards his law degree, Sean interned in the Alamance County District Attorney’s Office, and upon graduation accepted a position as an Assistant District Attorney in the office. For the next 18 years, Sean served Alamance County, prosecuting over 100 jury trials and securing convictions against our community’s most violent offenders.

Sean lives in Southern Alamance County with his wife, Dodie, his stepson, Liam, and their rescue cats. The Boone family attends St. Mark’s Church in Burlington, and volunteers at a local nursing & rehabilitation facility regularly. In his spare time, Sean enjoys reading books on American History.
