Homicide and Arson Resource Program

Since 2017 the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys has received funding from the General Assembly statutorily to implement the Homicide and Arson Resource Program. The express purpose of this program is to improve the ability to effectively prosecute homicide and arson cases and provide a resource prosecutor employed by the Conference of District Attorneys.

The Homicide and Arson Resource Program is designed to provide assistance and training for prosecutors, law enforcement, firefighters, fire marshals, arson investigators, medical professionals, and other allied professions in the areas of homicide and arson. Throughout the year, the Homicide and Arson Resource Program coordinates multiple statewide trainings that present up-to-date legal analysis, scientific discoveries, and practical instruction. In addition to facilitating trainings under the Conference of District Attorneys, the Homicide and Arson Resource Prosecutor works closely with the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal to assist with numerous trainings for fire professionals, particularly those related to fire investigations.

The Homicide and Arson Resource Program also provides direct assistance to prosecutors, law enforcement, and fire professionals when they have questions in these areas. Lastly, the Homicide and Arson Resource Program is responsible for the prosecution of homicide, arson, and other related cases, as assigned by the Executive Director for the Conference.
